This is Jeremy “Kamikaze” Myers

With only 7 followers on Twitter & having only a few of his many YouTube videos hitting over 1000 views it’s safe to say you are not familiar with the name Jeremy Myers. He may not be a name you know currently but he is someone that will be catching your eye very soon.

Jeremy Myers is ending his Amateur MMA Career with an 11-3 record and 4 titles at both 135 & 145 lbs. He is also the top ranked 135 pound Amateur in Ohio, Tennessee, & Kentucky.

Jeremy began training for Mixed Martial Arts at the age of 17 years old. Myers, like many was hooked on MMA after Forrest Griffin & Stephan Bonnar had there very famous battle at the first Ultimate Finale. After seeing the battle and falling in love, he joined his High School Wrestling team to develop a base for MMA and from there he began his Mixed Martial Arts training.

Myers lived with his brother & single mother in a very suburban lifestyle. Though he was not an angry child like your average fighter story, his mother did have to work very hard for him & his brother to have the life that they wanted. Myers had a very close relationship with his brother & mother which kept him to always be the happy person he is when you see him walking to the cage. Jeremy is not your prototypical fighter to walk out to “Metallica” or “DMX” Instead he prefers artists like “New Found Glory” & “Run DMC.”

Myers has built a reputation as a great striker who gives it his all in the Cage. Your common Go for Broke fighter, which is in comparison to fighters like Leonard Garcia and Kenny Florian. Jeremy trains out of Walker MMA Academy in Dayton, Ohio with other up and comers like Brandon Suber & Robert Walker Jr.

So with the continuous development, & the outlandish personality expect big things for Jeremy Myers in the 135 lb pro division.

Bjorn Rebney expresses interest in Welterweight Jay Hieron

If you’re a hardcore MMA Fan the name Jay Hieron is no secret to you. Jay has fought for many promotions including the UFC, Strikeforce, & the IFL. Though, there is one company Jay doesn’t have on his resume, Bellator. I was working Media from the Bellator event in Lousiville, Kentucky last Thursday and noticed Jay in the front row. During the press conference I asked Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney his thoughts on Jay Hieron and if there was interest in Jay participating in the next Welterweight Tournament.

“Absolutely, you have a guy like that who had many great performances going back to the IFL and all the great Welterweights in the world it’d be fantastic to have a guy like Jay in our company. The unfortunate part is his ties to other promotions.”

Fortunately I had the pleasure to speak with Jay after the press conference about these comments.

“I want to fight the top Welterweights in the world. I was only here as a fan but these guys are some of the best Fighters out there.”

I’m a huge fan of both Bellator & Jay Hieron. I honestly do believe from speaking with both parties you could definitely see Jay Hieron participate in the next Bellator Tourney and if you ask me, he’d probably be an early favorite.

ESPN is moving MMA Live to ESPN2. Where does that put the popularity of MMA?

Earlier this week ESPN announced that MMA Live is officially going from espn.com to ESPN2. I think this is a move in the right direction not only for MMA Live but for MMA in general. A big debate going on is when will MMA have mainstream popularity? There are people who feel MMA has hit mainstream popularity but many beg to differ.

If you go back to the recent boxing Pay Per View which had Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey boxing recieved a lot of criticism for how that event was put together and if you ask me rightfully so. The events in boxing seem to drag on now and Jim Rome even said that MMA has definitely passed boxing.

Another thing to add to that argument is that when the news of Thiago Alves was reported today it was reported by TMZ. Yes I’m like you I can’t stand TMZ but they report on mainstream sports/celebrities.

So if you ask me i’m not quite sure what side we’re on as far as Mainstream or not, but I do feel it is safe to say we’re very close.
